MFIS XXXV ✢ Joachim Spieth

“Not just beautiful, though – the stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing. And they’re watching me…”

Focus On ASC

British-born, U.S.-based artist James Clements, better known to most as ASC, has been musically active for more than 2 decades. With more than 20 albums and collaborations with labels such as Auxiliary (of which he is the operator), Silent Season, Horo, Semantica (…) it needs practically no further words to

Seasons

After the records for my “Seasons” project arrived I started to work off the pre-orders. Since within less than a week all records were sold out I am very grateful that this experiment / project was actually successful. If there are still people who are interested in a 10″ (lathe

Deep Breakfast 140 – Joachim Spieth

For the 140th mix of the Italian-based podcast “Deep Breakfast Series”, I have put together a selection of artists that are significant to me. With this, I say goodbye to 2021.

Viagem

Already in the early phase of Affin, ambient music was part of what we wanted to transport to the public. With the album “Crystal Castle” by Markus Guentner, which was already released in its original version in 2011, as well as some compilations with artist friends such as Gustavo Lamas,

15 Years Affin

15 years is a long time in electronic music. I associate an incredible amount of emotions, thoughts, designs, conversations, projects, contacts and travels with this time. Working for and with Affin and its associated artists as well as the countless supporters has had a huge impact on my life and

Pop Ambient 2022

Pop Ambient is a compilation series curated by Wolfgang Voigt, of which I was a part from the very beginning. The upcoming one for 2022 contains two collaborations I produced with Markus Guentner and Pepo Galán. The LP/CD will be released on the twelfth of November. Info With the cover

MONUMENT 310: JOACHIM SPIETH

It’s been a while since I published my last techno podcast. Today, one has been published by the Norwegian magazine Monument. Thanks for the kind words to the team!

Textures [Sound Library 2]

I recently completed the second sound library in my “Textures” series. This one acts as an acoustic canvas and prepares an interesting sound rich base to design different acoustic projections…

Variance on Semantica

Today we have some news to report. On the one hand, I appeared today for the first time together with my label colleague and friend Toki Fuko as a duo with the title “Variance”, on the other hand, we are also the first time guest on the Spanish Semantica label, which

Affinities [Headphone Commute]

An Affin label showcase I always welcome new music, new connections, new friendships that then come along. In this example, a track premiere by Joachim Spieth at the end of last year made me relisten to his works on Wolfgang Voigt’s Pop Ambient series, taking me to releases on his very own Affin imprint and finally asking him for a mix.

Textures [Sound Library 1]

“Textures” is a sound library that I’ve created during Winter 2021. It is a carefully selected collection of cinematic and evolving sounds that can be easily incorporated into your work, but they are primarily intended as a starting point for your own creative process like a painter’s palette of colors. All included sounds were produced for this sound library and have not been used on any of my releases before.

Ousia album

With Ousia, Joachim Spieth presents the third long player on his label Affin. The follow-up album to “Tides” creates imaginary spaces, translates ephemeral impressions and condenses them into cinematic soundscapes. The eight pieces illustrate an intense and emotional journey that creates expressive relationships between external and internal perceptions…

Article On Kaput Mag

“…After “Tides”, “Ousia” is the second purist ambient album by Joachim Spieth; it is released shortly after his contribution to the latest Pop Ambient 2021 (“Libration” together with Pepo Galán). While “Tides” was still characterized by a continuously present, never-ending carpet of sound – following the image of constantly high tides – “Ouisa” goes a step further: here everything moves in waves that swell and subside again…”

Luna on Mysteries | Chapter Three

The American label “Mysteries Of The Deep” recently asked me if I would provide a track for the third part of their “Mysteries Compilation”. “Chapter Three” has now been released. I am honoured to be featured alongside artists such as Rafael Anton Irisarri, Thomas Ragsdale and many more.

MAMMATUS appears on JORIS VOORN “#GU43 ROTTERDAM”

In 2019, Noctilucent, a project I produced in cooperation with Reggy Van Oers, was released on Affin. Recently, the track “Mammatus” was licensed by Joris Voorn for his mix compilation “Rotterdam”, which has now been released on the label “Global Underground”.

Pop Ambient 2021

I’m happy to see “Libration”, a collaboration with Spanish artist Pepo Galán, released on the next Pop Ambient compilation. This series is curated by Wolfgang Voigt, who is one of the founders of the Cologne-based Kompakt label and has been releasing groundbreaking works with his project Gas for more than 20 years.

Live Recording (Art Bei Ton)

After a promising start to 2020 with performances in Israel, an Affin showcase in Berlin, my first guest performance at Tresor West and a gig in Kiev, the situation changed dramatically in March. For months, no gigs were possible at all. The Art Bei Ton party in September therefore had a special character. Here is the recording of my set.

Tides album

With “Tides” I release my first album that musically processes exclusively ambient sound textures. I am extremely happy to be able to send out the records as of today.

Pop Ambient 2020

After more than a decade I return to the Cologne-based Kompakt label for the anniversary Pop Ambient compilation, celebrating its 20th compilation

Asia tour

Just arrived back home after my second Asia tour and I’m still overwhelmed by the impressions regarding the people, venues, places and ideas we shared during the last two weeks. Moreover, it was interesting to observe the developments at Lantern Club (Beijing) and vurt (Seoul) where I already performed 2

Focus On Svarog

Talking with the Lviv-based DJ & producer about his upcoming debut vinyl on Affin

Irradiance album

Irradiance is Joachim Spieth’s first full length album, to be released on his own imprint Affin. It reflects a cycle of realignment in a carefully realized emotional journey. A constant motion through the layers of the tracks shape the sonic landscape, while evolving atmospheres provide a cohesive feel with shimmers of optimism…

Asia tour review

Focus on Artefacts Mastering

One of the most influential persons I got in touch in the last years. Gio from Artefacts Mastering shaped my thoughts about how to produce music like no other and with this interview he reveals some facts about mastering and mixdown.

Touring in South Africa

…the moment when someone says to you, “It is the first time that I listen to such music, you opened a world to me tonight” … and when you feel that the other person really feels it and means it the same way. It was a really impressive week that I will not forget! Many thanks to everyone who works at Toy Toy and Vault and accompanied me…

The Orb licenses You Don’t Fool Me

“The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early morning ravers once the club closed their doors. A band that hit number one in the UK with their highly influential album U.F.Orb, they joined Back to Mine in 2003 to share with us all another example of their brilliance. This mix ranges in style from the sublime to the bizarre, emphasising something The Orb have always had – a healthy sense of humour…”
